Adroit Associates is seeking to update and expand its roster of sectoral consultants.

1. Role Summary

The Environment, Energy, and Climate Action Consultant will provide specialized technical expertise on an as-needed, on-call basis to support sustainable environmental management, renewable energy, and climate resilience programming. The consultant will contribute to designing interventions that promote environmental protection, clean energy access, and climate adaptation/​mitigation, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and best practices.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Technical Proposal Development & Project Design

· Provide technical inputs for environment, renewable energy, and climate action proposals, ensuring alignment with donor strategies and local contexts.

· Develop concept notes, logical frameworks, and theories of change for environmental sustainability, energy access, and climate resilience programs.

· Advise on best practices in climate adaptation, mitigation, renewable energy solutions, natural resource management, and environmental policy.

2. Short-Term Technical Assignments

· Conduct rapid assessments such as environmental impact analyses, energy needs assessments, and climate vulnerability studies to inform project design.

· Deliver specialized advisory services including policy analysis, green technology integration, and community-based climate adaptation strategies.

· Support baseline studies, mid-term reviews, and final evaluations of environment, energy, and climate action projects.

3. Research & Knowledge Products

· Draft technical reports, case studies, and policy briefs on environmental trends, renewable energy innovations, and climate action impacts.

· Analyze local and regional environmental risks, energy systems, and climate resilience strategies for donor reporting.

· Contribute to research publications and thought leadership to enhance organizational credibility and influence.

4. Capacity Building & Training (On-Demand)

· Design and facilitate tailored training sessions for partners on topics such as environmental management, clean energy technologies, and climate risk reduction.

· Provide remote or in-person mentorship to project teams on environmental monitoring tools and climate adaptation planning.

5. Representation & Strategic Engagement

· Act as a technical representative in meetings with donors, government agencies, environmental authorities, and partners when required.

· Support stakeholder consultations to validate project approaches and ensure alignment with local environmental and climate realities.

3. Qualifications

Education:

Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.

Experience:

· 5+ years of experience in environmental management, energy programming, or climate action, preferably in fragile, conflict-affected, or underdeveloped contexts.

· Proven track record in supporting successful proposals and delivering high-impact short-term consultancies.

· Familiarity with donor requirements (e.g., USAID, UN, EU, FCDO) and key environmental and climate action frameworks.

· Strong analytical skills with experience in environmental assessments, energy diagnostics, and climate risk analysis.

· Excellent technical writing skills for proposals, reports, and policy documents.

· Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.

· Fluency in English required; additional languages relevant to the region are an asset.
