Profile
The Health and Nutrition Consultant will provide specialized technical expertise on an as-needed, on-call basis to support effective health and nutrition programming. The consultant will contribute to designing interventions that improve access to quality health services, enhance nutrition outcomes, and strengthen health systems for vulnerable populations, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and best practices.
1. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Technical Proposal Development & Project Design
· Provide technical inputs for health and nutrition proposals, ensuring alignment with donor strategies and local contexts.
· Develop concept notes, logical frameworks, and theories of change for health systems strengthening, maternal and child health, and nutrition improvement programs.
· Advise on best practices in primary health care, community-based nutrition, disease prevention, and health promotion.
2. Short-Term Technical Assignments
· Conduct rapid assessments such as health facility surveys, nutrition baseline studies, and feasibility assessments to inform project design.
· Deliver specialized advisory services including policy analysis, health system capacity assessments, and nutrition-sensitive programming.
· Support baseline studies, mid-term reviews, and final evaluations of health and nutrition projects.
3. Research & Knowledge Products
· Draft technical reports, case studies, and policy briefs on health trends, nutrition innovations, and program impacts.
· Analyze local and regional health systems, disease burden, and nutrition status for donor reporting.
· Contribute to research publications and thought leadership to enhance organizational credibility and influence.
4. Capacity Building & Training (On-Demand)
· Design and facilitate tailored training sessions for partners on topics such as maternal and child health, nutrition best practices, and health data management.
· Provide remote or in-person mentorship to project teams on health monitoring tools and nutrition assessments.
5. Representation & Strategic Engagement
· Act as a technical representative in meetings with donors, government agencies, health authorities, and partners when required.
· Support stakeholder consultations to validate project approaches and ensure alignment with local health and nutrition realities.
2. Qualifications
Education:
Advanced degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Medicine, Health Sciences, or a related discipline.
Experience:
· 5+ years of experience in health and nutrition programming, preferably in fragile, conflict-affected, or underdeveloped contexts.
· Proven track record in supporting successful proposals and delivering high-impact short-term consultancies.
· Familiarity with donor requirements (e.g., USAID, UN, EU, FCDO) and key health and nutrition frameworks.
· Strong analytical skills with experience in health assessments, nutrition surveys, and program design.
· Excellent technical writing skills for proposals, reports, and policy documents.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
· Fluency in English required; additional languages relevant to the region are an asset.
