Rapid Assessment of Hazardous Work for Children in Carpet Weaving, Painting Metal and Wooden Products, and Spraying, Mixing or Selling Insecticides in Balkh Province

This research was conducted by Adroit Associates in collaboration with the International Labour Organization and was generously supported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan.

The report, spanning seven districts in Balkh, highlights three sectors with notable child labour: Carpet Weaving, Painting of Metal and Wooden Items, and Handling/Selling Insecticides and the primary risks children face in these sectors. It also provides information on which districts have the highest rates of child labour, broken down by sector. To understand the key issues, we utilized a mixed-methods strategy, incorporating household and SME surveys, Key Informant Interviews, and Focus Group Discussions.
