Our High-Impact Projects

From 2018 to 2021, Adroit implemented USAID’s largest technical feasibility study in Afghanistan, working with several ministries within the then government of Afghanistan to assess the feasibility and viability of a multi-billion dollar irrigation and hydropower project — the Qosh Tepa Irrigation Project — which, if implemented, will provide millions with access to water and power resources, thus transforming Afghanistan’s economy.

Engaging 20 donor countries and senior UNDP officials, this analysis dissected over $6 billion of investment and served as a pivotal instrument in enabling legal frameworks, strengthening law enforcement agencies, and promoting justice, thus fundamentally reshaping the societal fabric of Afghanistan.

Some notable projects included long-term monitoring and advising on the design of a large-scale 800-bed dormitory construction for women, scholarship monitoring inside and outside Afghanistan, media support monitoring, and public perception analysis.

We oversaw aid processes across 34 Afghan provinces, ensuring transparency, equity, and precision in aid distribution. Surveying over 150,000 households, we played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of both emergency and non-emergency aid, safeguarding its effectiveness from selection to outcome.

Adroit Associates implemented the "Assessment of Hazardous Work for Children and Review of OSH Best Practices" project, shedding light on child labor's perilous reality, mapping dangers in child labor, and evaluating Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) measures. Our initiative, including the creation of a "Child Labor Self-help Safety Guidebook" informed by our research, provided critical resources to improve child labor safety.

Adroit Associates has implemented a series of impactful projects for BBC Media Action, influencing democratic dialogue, gender rights, food security, and public health. Through comprehensive studies and innovative data collection utilizing various methods and tools, we highlighted the power of media in driving social change, paving the way for future interventions for BBC Media Action that could in turn positively impact millions in Afghanistan.

Adroit conducted comprehensive value chain assessments for saffron, silk, and raisins to enhance local economic development and identify promising value chains in Afghanistan through 1000+ surveys, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and market observations.

An in-depth evaluation of a media-driven nutrition awareness campaign, aiming to discern its role in instigating behavioral changes concerning nutrition and food security and inform future communication strategies.

Adroit monitored the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on Afghanistan's agricultural sector and food security. The project provided valuable insights to inform policies, improve the efficiency of FAO's aid, and enhance resilience in the face of socio-political instability.

Utilizing a range of research methodologies, we identified the positive and challenging aspects of media-driven campaigns focused on gender rights to help fine-tune messaging and evaluate the influence of client's communication programming.

A comprehensive study of the Open Jirga program, gauging its reach and resonance among diverse Afghan audiences, to align program content with audience insights, ensuring effective communication and engagement.

Adroit conducted a rapid needs assessment to understand the needs of the vulnerable local communities in Afghanistan, through 1000+ surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews, revealing critical challenges including inadequate shelter, limited access to clean water, and low food security affecting households.

Mid-Term Review of FAO's ‘Combating Land Degradation and Biodiversity Loss’ project assessed sustainable rangeland management and biodiversity conservation progress. The review provided strategic insights to enhance community engagement and environmental resilience.

The Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) project for FAO assessed wheat yield variability under different agricultural practices, collecting data from over 15,000 surveys. The findings informed strategic policy recommendations to improve productivity, food security, and sustainable farming.

The Seasonal Food Security Assessment (SFSA) 2024 evaluated post-harvest food security in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan, informing IPC 2025 and guiding the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).

Baseline and endline impact survey assessing ECI’s National Awareness Campaign on Disability across 16 Afghan provinces, engaging 1,886 respondents to evaluate public perceptions, inclusivity, and advocacy effectiveness.
