Adroit Associates is seeking to update and expand its roster of sectoral consultants.
1. Role Summary
The Economic Development & Livelihoods Consultant will provide specialized technical expertise on an as-needed, on-call basis support sustainable economic development and livelihoods programming. The consultant will contribute to designing interventions that enhance income generation, market access, employment opportunities, and resilience for vulnerable populations, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and best practices.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Technical Proposal Development & Project Design
· Provide technical inputs for economic development, livelihoods, and market systems proposals, ensuring alignment with donor strategies and local contexts.
· Develop concept notes, logical frameworks, and theories of change for livelihoods and economic resilience programs.
· Advise on best practices in value chain development, microenterprise support, vocational training, and inclusive economic growth.
2. Short-Term Technical Assignments
· Conduct rapid assessments such as market analyses, livelihood baseline surveys, and feasibility studies to inform project design.
· Deliver specialized advisory services including policy analysis, private sector engagement strategies, and gender-sensitive economic empowerment.
· Support baseline studies, mid-term reviews, and final evaluations of economic development and livelihoods projects.
3. Research & Knowledge Products
· Draft technical reports, case studies, and policy briefs on economic trends, livelihood innovations, and program impacts.
· Analyze local and regional market systems, employment patterns, and resilience strategies for donor reporting.
· Contribute to research publications and thought leadership to enhance organizational credibility and influence.
4. Capacity Building & Training (On-Demand)
· Design and facilitate tailored training sessions for partners on topics such as entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and market linkages.
· Provide remote or in-person mentorship to project teams on livelihoods monitoring tools and economic analysis.
5. Representation & Strategic Engagement
· Act as a technical representative in meetings with donors, government agencies, private sector actors, and partners when required.
· Support stakeholder consultations to validate project approaches and ensure alignment with local economic realities.
3. Qualifications
Education:
Advanced degree in Economics, Development Studies, Business Administration, Rural Development, or related discipline.
Experience:
· 5+ years of experience in in economic development, livelihoods programming, or market systems development, preferably in fragile, conflict-affected, or underdeveloped contexts.
· Proven track record in supporting successful proposals and delivering high-impact short-term consultancies.
· Familiarity with donor requirements (e.g., USAID, UN, EU, FCDO) and key economic development frameworks.
· Strong analytical skills with experience in market assessments, value chain analysis, and livelihoods diagnostics.
· Excellent technical writing skills for proposals, reports, and policy documents.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
· Fluency in English required; additional languages relevant to the region are an asset.
